I'm considering buying a 1989 Beneteau First 285. On the particular boat that I'm looking at, I've noticed the spreaders seem to be a bit loose. Is this normal? If not has anyone had this problem? How was it fixed? Do the spreaders tighten as you tighten the stays? Any help would be much appreciated.

Is it on the hard?
If it's on land they may have slacked off on the shrouds to take the stress off the hull while on jack stands. If it's still in the water then I would guess that the rig has not been properly tuned. Either way I'd ask the broker about it.
