Loose rig

Greetings, We haven't had the boat in the water for a couple years. Put it in this morning and set the rig. The forestay/backstay is loose. Never been this loose..Turnbuckles at their max, backstay adjuster fully drawn tight. The mast step and compression post seem fine. I has a roller furler but that shouldn't effect anything.. What happened??

It may have been chocked incorrectly and is bent. When it's launched the evenly distributed weight may return it to its correct shape. But turnbuckles maxed and BS adjuster full on seems like a lot.

All good advice above.

Normally, a boat stored on the hard would tend to sag at the ends, since yards set a boat on her keel and simply support the hull with stands to keep her from falling over, but your Catalina 22 was most likely on a trailer, not stands. That probably means your bow sat on a roller and the keel wasn't supported. I would guess she just needs to stretch herself out after spending too much time in the hammock.

I have that same problem.
I believe that when the ends of the boat sag while laid up the term is hogged. I don't know a term for when the middle of the boat sags - reverse hog? Anti hog?

Hogging is when the middle of the boat is higher than the ends and sagging is when the middle of the boat is lower than the ends.

On a Mariner 19, what you describe is what happens when the compression post cracks the inner hull liner. The compression post did not go through to the hull. The fix has been to fiberglass in about 3/4" support from the hull to the inner hull liner. then remount compression post. I hope the Catalina 22 was built a bit better.

Another possibility is that your forestay is damaged inside the furler, allowing it to stretch.

The term is: “Swaybacked”
