On my 2001 Hunter 290 several of the Lifeline Stanctions are loose and need to be tightened. From the topside it has a Phillips Head screw/bolt, which just turns and turns. I assume there is a nut on the underside, but I will have to pull the Headliner down. My question to the forum, 'Has anyone done this?' 'Are the nuts/bolts even accessible so I can put a wrench on them? At least three of the Stanchions are loose and I am assuming that it will be a pain in the @#$% times 3 and was looking to find out if it is doable and how difficult.

If you have the stanchion shown (I think you do), those screws are tapped into an aluminum plate encapsulated in the fiberglass. You probably need to remove the screws, fill the holes using epoxy or a comparable product that fills holes in aluminum, and re-drill.

You stanchion bases are probably screwed into an plate that is glassed into the deck. The inboard ones are probably screwed into the deck (no bolts). Have you attempted to remove one for confirmation?

You may need to epoxy the deck screw holes and redrill them if that is the issue.

We have access ports in the headliner on our HV36 that allow access to these areas.

What i did for mine is use a narrower bolt, drop a string through the hole, secure it to tip of bolt and draw it from below through the hole. Put the nut outside at stanchion base. Use a large SS washer at below bolt head. Bolt sticks out beside stanchion base but not much. Use sealant as needed.

Hi Ken,

Any chance you could post a photo of this? I want to make sure I understand what you did.
