I'm preparing to step my mast for the first time on my , new to me , O'day 222 and I noticed that the bolt on the aft end of the boom that secures the aft tang has about 1/4 inch slop in it. I tried to put presure on what I assume is a nut on the inside of the boom and tried to tighten it, with no luck. The only way to excess this "nut" is to drill out the two rivets and pull off the end plate. Is this something I should consider or can I live with this "slop"?

that is the way it was set up to be. The main sheet connects to that tang. The bolt is a shoulder bolt.

The shoulder that Harley
is talking about allows the piece it connects to rotate. It is meant to be that way as harley has said however, it is for the topping lift not the main sheet. r.w.landau

Kurt, Actually Harley is correct on this one. It is intended for the mainsheet. The topping lift, which, as designed for the 222, is a pigtail off of the backstay, attaches to an eyestrap on the top of the boom. Both are correct that this is supposed to swivel. Dave s/v Hakuna Matatta O'Day 222

I thought we were talking the O'Day 240. As always still learning to read. That is the model post. Yes the 222 is mainsheeted from the back of the boom. r.w.landau
