Hi Richard
Putting such a request on the site never worked for me. So I can't help you other than offering a suggestion of what has worked for me when trying to find a ride as crew. Thanks to that method I have been lucky enough to sail everywhere in the world that I've been.
First, write a small bio of yourself as a sailor. What you have done, the boats you have sailed on, racing or cruising, location and weather conditions of the sails you were on. A brief and honest description should suffice and will surely help the boat owner to make up his mind whether if would be interesting to have you join on board. Offer to participate in related costs (food and drinks mostly) for the day also helps.
Then get on the owners list of this site and select the boats in the Charleston area that you'd be interested to sail on. You have to spend time going through the list to locate them. Once you have indentified a few, send them a private message. The site will allow you to do that to the owners you have selected, but one at the time. Your bio and request has to be done as a copy & paste since the site doesn't allow mass messaging. Good luck.
