It is time to haul and bottom paint. Any recommendations for a yard and/or surveyor in the Miami or Fort Lauderdale (or farther) area would be appreciated.

Suggest doing an internet search on boat yards in the Miami and Fort Lauderdale area and find ones that do bottom painting. Some will post their prices by the foot depending on paint type and number of coats.

Do the same for a marine surveyor. Since Covid surveyors are very busy do to the hot boat market. Curious why you want a survey (insurance or marina requirement?) and type of survey...... general marine, hull, rigging, engine, electrical?

Googling both was my first step. The survey is for insurance only.

I would feel much more confident hearing from someone who experienced the business. The Google reviews seem quite vague and useless, like they were purchased.

A number of years ago, as a new boat owner, I used a yard in West Palm Beach. Their attitude was basically ‘just leave your wallet with us’. They were less than competent and eager to charge for everything. I was charged $300 for labor for their guys to determine that they do not know how to change a bearing. While working on another boat, their workmen used my inflatable as a work table. They tore a hole in it and I was treated to a story about a freak accident where a router bit came flying across the yard and happened to hit my dingy.

There is a yard in the Keys that has a reputation for stealing your boat and charging storage until you pay whatever they have decided you owe them.

Hence my overabundance of caution.
