Does anyone know if the old wooden spreaders are still available anywhere for a Catalina 30

Not sure if you are talking about a store in Bodega Bay [I'm in Boston] or the online store here. Already checked Catalina Direct and they don't sell them any more.
Thanks

Granny,

One question, did you find that the topside of your spreader had rotted?
This happened to my old wood spreaders.

I went to JSI with an old spreader & bracket & had them make me two all-weld aluminum ones with matching mounting holes.

I don't have pics but imagine an airplane wing. The price was lower than what I had thought. Now I have no maintenance. Folks with wood spreaders have commented how neat they look. Some had JSI make them replacement aluminum spreaders.

Remember man, "Life's too short to keep redoing your teak." It takes away from your sailing time.

Just an idea.

Woods,

Funny you said that pal, I spoke with a Catalina rep. & he told me they make an exact replacement aluminum foil-shaped changeout spreader.

Granny & others that may be interested, call the Ship's Store @ 727.544.6481.

ps: Woods, Waz up man?

Glenn, there's a reason why: they break! Instead of going backwards, why not get two new ones?

I agree with Stu,

Just move forward & into the future........
You might be happier with the outcome.

My thoughts only pal,

My buddy Bill made me some new spreaders out of wood. Not sure what type but he went to a specialty shop to get it. We swapped them out one at a time with the mast up. Worked out fine. I used Interlux PreKote (2 coats) and a finish coat of EasyKote. They shine like they are white painted aluminum. So I'll need to re coat in a few years. No big deal, I had 34 years on the old ones.

When I removed my rotten wood spreaders and replaced the the port and starboard were each of a different length, neither were the same dimension as the nice aluminum foils I bought from Catalina Yachts.

I'm with Rob. I made new ones over the winter, using Sitka spruce from Chesapeake Light Craft (online), using the old ones as a pattern, and all the old hardware. Painted with PreKote and Brightsides. Beautiful. My boat's an '82, so I think the new ones will outlast the boat. For sure they will outlast me!
If you're just a little handy, it will cost you $150, rather than $900 for the aluminum conversion kit.
