I have a 2000 Hunter 340 and I keep it clean and waxed. I have been using Nu-Finish on the gelcoat. It looks pretty good now, but I was wondering if there is a kind of wax that holds up real good and gives a superior shine. I'm willing to experiment.

The Nu-Finish is very good....two coats on my car lasts all year. I've been using StarBrite with Teflon on my 1972 O'Day 22. EZ on, EZ off two coats lasts all year.

Contact Island Girl.

Allan: Contact Jim @ Island Girl and talk to him. He has great products. Your boat is probably not oxidized so this is not a issue. You are probably looking for something to protect a finish that is in good shape.

Wax recomendation

Nu-finish is great, I used it for 11 years and it was rated nr one by consumers report for years -- but it does take two coats. I recently swithed to Collinite Fleetwax and so far like it.

I vote for Fleetwax on your 2000 Hunter. On older boats I recommend Poly Glow (much written on this here at HOW).

Anything but Island Girl!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unless you want serious issues about three, four months down the road - do NOT use Island Girl products. Worst mistake ever made on our dock a couple years ago. After several containers of Soft Scrub were emptied and many hours of scrubbing on several boats to remove the Island Girl, Island Girl has been banned from C dock....

I've had my frustrations, but it's really great. IG is a resin that actually closes the pores. It won't keep the finish clean, you still do. But it will clean up much faster and stay shiney

carnuba wax

Last April I decided to experiment with a spray-on carnuba wax. I applied Maguiers to the starboard side, and Turtle to port. Both sides still look great. I realize these waxes won't last as long as others, but they took less than 20% as much time to apply, and only one coat was required. I'm more impressed with Maguiers than Turtle, and plan to use carnuba wax exclusively whenever I have to apply wax while my boat's in the slip. For those who go two or three years between haul-outs, I think that this is an option worth pursuing.
