I noticed the traveler track on my '76 30 has a tiny bit of up and down play toward one end, and I want to either take it off and re-secure it, or simply tighten it down if possible. Does anyone know what type of deck fastening was used here? I saw it right when I was leaving the boat and I didn't think to look below underneath it before I left and want to tackle this Sat AM. It probably has the same hardware as the '76 through '78 models with the cursed companionway traveler track. Is it nuts and washers underneath or something else? Can you get to the nuts without moving cabin bulkheads out of the way? Will I need a helper or has anyone done this singlehanded? Thanks for your input.

Assuming, you are correct and its laid out like my 77 then the screws go through the deck to a washer and a bolt. In my case the bolts were in some cases actual a round thread tube and the only way to hold them was with a vice grip. If you have the round bolt go gentle with the vice grip as if they are on to hard the jam the threads and warp the tube.

The starboard side is reasonably easy to get to, they are in the 1/4 birth, the port side not so much I found I had to climb into the lazerette to reach them. If you are doing this you may want to consider replacing the teak, I found mine was waterlogged and there is no good way to seal it except taking it all apart so new teak will suffer the same fate. I am planning to go with plasteak this winter.

Thanks for the tips MLampner- I'll bring extra vise grips. Oh, and you've got to adjust the rig just a tad on your h30 Lamp, point the boom toward the cockpit, not the pulpit. After I stopped trying to sail her with the q'berth starboard, I stopped getting those funny looks. ;-)

Is that an inside joke? Like the q-berth is on port like my H37C?

You know that could explain a few things I kept wondering why the wheel was in the bow...

LOL.

Actually do know which side is starboard and port but for some bizzare reason when I was visualizing the boat I had the quarter berth forward, not aft. I guess I must have spent to much time upside down in the lazerette trying to find the bolts the last time I played with it.
