Lookin' the wrong way!! Usually the mark is somewhere ahead. Also need to be 'reading' the water for puffs and calling for lifts or knocks. That is a big help to the helm.

Alan, My crew of friends might have a total of 20 hours at the helm between all 3 of them. I was looking ahead and they shouted for me to look back for the picture. They wouldnt know a lift from a header or what to do when it came. Thats my job. We had fun and didnt do bad ( 2nd place in "B fleet if I remember right) in spite of my crews lack of experience and they are welcome to crew again anytime.

Pat, Yes its a mandatory accessory in Texas. Gotta keep the crew happy

Bill, yes I am and hope to get older and grayer. lol Lots of sailing left to do.
