O'Day 15 Kinsale
I just bought an old O'Day 15 but could only find one spreader. Anybody know where I can find one? Currently rigged without spreaders, seems to sail fine but curious if others have sailed without spreaders and how it affects handling.

Welcome to the SBO forum. Welcome back to sailing.

Spreaders help to keep the angle from the mast to the hull in the proper place. With out the spreader you put stress on the mast and the chainplates.

Take the one you have and ask a local shop if they can make a replacement. Likely it is aluminum and can be fabricated in a day.

Thanks so much for the help! Do you think its okay to leave it docked with the rigging as is until I can get a new one made?

Sure. Just run a halyard down to the cockpit stern. and tie it off you then get four lines holding the mast in place. Snug the halyard up and all the other lines will also snug up keeping the mast from getting sloppy.

I had a Montgomery 15. The spreaders kept the side shrouds in a position that even when a little soft (slack) the triangle shape of the lines each pulling down maintain the proper angles.

D&R Marine might have a replacement. Most machine shops can replicate one. If you post a pic of the one you have we may be able to advise how to fabricate one yourself. Some are really easy to remake

I called Rudy at D&R Marine and he said he could make me one! Sent him a picture and the measurements and waiting for a quote. Thanks everyone for your suggestions!

That's great to hear! He is probably the most knowledgeable people when it comes to O'Day boats. He was their parts manager
