Slips in New Orleans
Both marina at West End are ususally full, but there are always a few slips at South Shore by the Lakefront Airport. Ours is kept there and its not bad at all. No marina based yards or fuel, but an available pump out and the services offered at the West End Marina's is only about an hour away under motor for most boats. Sailing here is good, although the lake has a reputation for choppiness and sudden storms. The choppiness is mostly from being so wide but so shallow. You would be challenged to find water much more than 20 feet deep. South Shore also has a small but active yacht club which is more fond of cruising than racing. If you want to race, there is a very active calendar available at www.corinthians.org. There are several clubs to consider joining including one of the oldest in the country. North of the lake there are even some navigable waterways to anchor in. There are some sharks here, and of course alligators, but the water quality near the south shore is more than good enough for swimming. We've had several boats rafted up in the lake and people grabbed lifejackets or noodles and just paddled around the boats in the middle of the night.
