In 1979 my good friend John Holt Willey began an apprenticeship at the Paul Luke boatyard on Linekin Bay, Maine. In 2016 John published A Winter Apprentice, A Winter Apprentice: Willey, John Holt: 9781882190454: Amazon.com: Books. Told from the point of view of a fine woodworker/Zen practitioner, this story articulates the beauty and fine craftsmanship that can happen in an industrial setting that combines modern technology with traditional boatbuilding skills. eg.: chestnut cabinetry in a welded aluminum hill. If you love the craft of boatbuilding, you'll love this book!
During his year at the Luke yard, John worked on a 45 ft. aluminum hulled sloop originally named Simba. He'd love to know where this boat is now and who owns her. Might be in Florida? Any leads appreciated!

Simba is a surprisingly popular name for boats.

This might be her. She was last seen on Lake Superior in August 2019.

The MMSI number can be searched to find additional information. I won't post that information here. The USCG Documentation number is 547722.
