We are totally refurbishing a '79 Hunter 30 and are looking for ideas for the salon sole. We are trying to expand our idea horizons and looking for other alternatives to teak. There are several new cork designs and colors for flooring. But we're not sure how it would work in the marine environment..... has anyone used cork or any other materials?

linoleum??

My boat had some nasty teak and holy at the base of the ladder but most of the rest was nice. patching would have looked like a patch job so I decided to try linoleum. It came out pretty nice. I would not suggest doing the whole thing though. (would look tacky)

I can't seem to get the site to load my picture. This will be my last attempt. If it doesn't show up and you'd like to see it, contact me at sailbode@gis.net

Ideas...

Hello, Would not recoomend cork in any marine environment, it breathes and will swell itself off any substrate... We used to do a shower pan on shop floor in non slip one inch porcelain tile that came on a mesh backed sheet in white with an offset border of black... With sheet linoleum and a wheel razor you could do some mighty fine custom work but expensive, talk to an Architect who does a lot of schools and public buildings about this... Also see this link for great product info... See http://www.rfci.com/links.htm ... SH.

O Sole a Mia . . .

A cabin sole of Italian Marble would be nice. A side benefit would be you could then lop about a foot off the keel :) Nick "Julia Bell" C-27, #86

Teak and holly in sheets

Nick, no singing on line. Just kidding. Sing all you want. People come up with the strangest things. This guy (related link) did the floors of his 26X with teak and holly he got in a 4X8 sheet! Then he had enough left over to do his head! You may want to drop him a line.
