Could anyone advise me on where to search for door latches for a built in refrigerator? The company who made it was bought out by another company and I am having a challenge finding them, plus the fridge is an old FrostMate 690 that was made by WAECO Adler/Barbour in CT, USA. I
contacted the new company that bought them but they haven't been able to help so far.

My husband would faint if I got a drill out and started trying to rig it with just anything. He's in the states and I'm in Central America on the boat. I'd like to find these latches and fix this so the door will stay closed.

Any suggestions from any of you nice folks would be greatly appreciated.

This is my first post so I hope this is in the appropriate forum to ask about this. If not, could you please direct me to the right one? Thank you.

Aside from the manufacturer, your best bet might be Hunter Marine at customerservice@huntermarine.com. It may take a few days for them to answer this time of year.

But, with all the ownership changes that company has been through, you may well have to find a new latch system for it.

Looking for fridge parts

Okay, I figured out how to attach photos...
Descriptions:
upper inside with peg not in place - ignore the peg not in place part - that is how it should look.
bottom male broken off - the curved end broke off and the last photo called door part is how this broken piece should look.
I would love to have two sets of these if I can find them.
Thanks.

Thank you for the advise. I have emailed that address a number of times but have never once received a response. My husband said that was his experience with them as well. Maybe I will give them another shot.

Re: Looking for fridge parts

Find a local machinist to make one for you in brass. In the mean time velcro and webbing is a good temporary fix.

Ross, thanks for the suggestions. I am on the Rio Dulce in Guatemala, Central America. I'm actually 20 miles upriver where the people here don't have much in the way of professionals. However, the temporary fix might work for a little while. I was actually hoping to find someone who replaced their built-in FrostMate 690 with another type of refrigerator and had one laying around in their garage. Wouldn't that be large? I also hoped that someone on this forum knew of a site that specializes in spare parts for older equipment. I know there has to be one somewhere in the world.
Thanks.

check amazon.com

They are Southco latches and can be had for $4.06 ea. These have NOTHING to do with the refrigeration mfg.

Part Number: C3-803

In the meantime put your warm beer on the lid to hold the top down.

thanks.

If you have any difficulty in getting it shipped from Amazon, send me a PM and I will send you a couple from my spares express mail or whatever service is best. If you are going to do it, do so by Tuesday since I'll be gone for two weeks thereafter.

You happen to have the same ones? I can give you an address in Louisiana and have my husband bring them when he comes down in a couple of weeks. Let me get the office address and I'll get back to you. Could you post photos of what yours look like please?

They will ship from Amazon in 24 hrs. Be sure to order a half dozen so you have spares for the other ones that WILL break sooner or later. The new ones are a little more robust than the older models. The male part may also need an additional hole drilled.

PS: "How did you know this stuff?" 'cause that is what I am here for.

The other style

Steve,

Would you happen to know what the number is for the ones with the single side for lockers and cabinets too? I found the ones you referred me to and sent it on to my husband. But the ones on some of our lockers indoors are also breaking. I'd love to get some backups of those too.
Thanks so much!

Actually, I think it's the C3-805's

The C3-803 has three pounds force; the C3-805 has five pounds and the C3-810 has (surprise!) ten pounds. I think they were the five pound units, C3-805's

Searching: if you can wait for your Husband to bring them, then have him get a dozen and you're set. If not, I will send a pair via FedEx to you in Guatemala to tide you over until he gets there. i will not be able to send them until the 13th since they are on the boat. Actually, I guess your Husband can do the same thing, huh? But, if I can help, let me know.

Re: The other style

Mine are all the same for the refrig, freezer and cabinets. I'd be surprised if your's are different. If they are, post a photo.

Rick pretty much outlined the different parts. I would suggest that you get a couple of each. They are cheap enough and if you don't like one of them, just swap it for another.

C3-803
C3-805
C3-810

Same latch differnet spring tension.

Thank you all for the information. I will discuss this with my husband in a few minutes on Skype and we'll make a decision. Take care.
