Looking for Our next boat

I am located in the Pacific Northwest. I just sold a Hunter 33 to move to a trailerable sail boat for use in salt water and lakes. I have also owned a Hunter 260.

I am looking now for a ramp launchable sail boat capable of weekend and occasional extended stays on the water. I prefer a fixed keel. A swing keel "might" be acceptable in the right boat. Water ballast is unacceptable as is any single sail design. It needs to be strongly built as well as stable and safe in bad weather and rough conditions. The Com-Pac 23 seems perfect. I would be very interested in a used Com-Pac 23 anywhere in the WA, OR, ID or Northern CA Areas.

The variety of sail boats is endless. It is part of what I love about them. I know the right boat is out there. I am interested in any feedback the forum members might have on makes and models that fit the criteria above and opportunities to find them.

Thanks for the responses. Found our last boat. A refurbished Rhodes 22. Wow. It is everything we were looking for. Anyone looking for a pocket cruiser would be wise to check it out before making a final purchase decision.

We downsized to a trailerable as well.. replacing our previous H27. There are many choices that would meet your needs, including the H23 which is what we wound up getting.

Personally, I love my O'day 25. It is a very stout boat that is bit like a tank but sails rather nicely. It is definitely large enough for the occasional long stay. Mine is a half keel / CB design. I do not believe this is a draw back, no pun intended. The boat draws less than 3', which is really nice.

The down side. The boat itself is pretty large and is intimidating to trailer for somebody without a lot of trailering experience. The boat is pretty heavy, which requires a large tow vehicle. I tow my boat with my 5.4L F150 without any problems. I do not have any experience in towing a 23' or 22' sailboat to compare to my 25', so this might not hold that true in comparison to a boat slightly smaller.

Since you are in the NW, look for a Ray Richards-designed Ranger 26. These were built in a limited production run by Ranger Boats in Kent WA in the early 80's. Designed to be legally trailerable and have good performance under sail. Fixed shoal keel with internal lead ballast, with a CB for windward performance.
"Blue water" construction with a through-bolted hull to deck joint and positive floatation. Most had an OB in a well, but a few were built with a single cylinder Yanmar. Very nice cruising interior for a couple.

Trailerable choices

If you are looking for a trailerable boat that can be ramp launched with a full keel your choices are limited. If you are willing to launch with a travel lift there are many choices. I have a P26w with a good trailer draws 4' I can trail it anywhere but Its not ramp launchable
