My Oday 28 came with a 2 burner Hillerange stove with oven. The previous owner had removed it and fabricated a cabinet with a ceramic tile top in it's place. Prior to putting the boat on the market the stove was replaced. The cabinet is in the garage waiting my decision on which to use. My wife and I will be weekending while inland lake sailing and I'm wondering do we keep the Hillerange or just use a 2 burner camp stove and get some much needed storage? I have no experiance with the Hillrange but we do like to eat !! Thoughts everyone?? Thanks, max

I use my oven on almost every overnight trip we take. Only in very warm weather do I forego fresh biscuits or muffins.

We use ours for scones in the morning.

If you're concerned about storage, use the inside of the oven for storage if you don't use it. when you want it, it's nice to have.

Can't make buns in a drawer or a cabinet.

Nor can you use them for heat.

Third having an oven aboard. My boat came with only a stove/broiler, and I wish it had an oven as well.

We..

We love the oven. Only once did we have a boat without one and we really missed it. Sure you can survive without one but the smell fresh baked blueberry bread, on a foggy Maine morning, can't be beat..:)

Re: We..

Cookies, fruit filled turnovers, biscuits, muffins, yeast breads, quick breads such as Mainesails blueberry bread, nicely browned roast chicken, casseroles all require an oven. Your cooking will suffer and your crew will be less happy with boring meals.

I love, and use it a lot, my stove/oven, having said that, depends on what you like, you can always cook on the "back deck's" grill/oven/stove, but, most marinas do not allow the use of them.

A couple years ago I took the whole thing apart to clean. It was 23 years dirty. I was very impressed with the quality of construction and that it could be fully disassembled & reassembled. I don't use the oven a whole lot, but I did have the temp control rebuilt by a guy in Texas that calls himself the Uncertain Stoveman (Uncertain, TX). He rebuilt for ~$100 as opposed to new part from Seaward for ~$225.
Great stove.
