A part has broken on my pedestal that supports the gear shift and throttle levers. Does anyone know where I could find a used part for a steering pedestal made by Northern Yacht Specialities which I understand is long out of business. Any help tracking this down is much appreciated! I have a Hunter/Quest36 which I sail around the Maritime Provinces and NE States. She was built in 1985-6.

Dump it!

I yanked out that part that held the shifter and throttle on my 1985 H34. It is made of plastic and is junk. Remove it and look in the Edson catalog for an external shifter and throttle combined. Edson tech help will assist you with what you need. Replace the two cables too. It is a great improvement with the single handle - just like the boats sold today.

Pedestral parts

We had the same problem with that plastic ring. I found out the Edson bought Yacht Specialties assets but retired the parts inventory. They were polite on the phone but the bottom line is that to buy enough parts from Edson to make the unit work would have cost close to $1000 then we still would have had the labor to have everything installed. So, we took the broken part to a small foundry (Franklin, N.H.) and they fabricated a new one out of aluminum ($275, I think) then we took the new part to a machine shop to have the holes drilled ($30). I painted then reinstalled it and it has worked fine. Any small foundry could make the part. The whole process took three weeks. Jay Tracy C9.6 # 129 "Job Site"
