looking for nice marinas VA/NC/SC

Planning the next phase of our boat life and hoping to explore these states a lot more in depth......

So we are looking for really nice marinas, that are affordable monthly for at least a couple of months at a time....Liveaboard while there, seeing the local sites by boat several times a month as well as some shore side excursions and some day sailing.

Hopefully 35-38 ft monohull (we have sold our P42 and hope to downsize to something just for the two of us, but now have to have at least a double berth, not vberth)

All we need are clean showers/bath house and safe dockage. Anything else is icing on the cake.

Your ideas, as well as recent rates and terms. Yes I have googled and active captain'ed quite a few and sent email to even more...with zero email response. Good as well as the bad.

I have been to a lot of marinas on the Chesapeake Bay. I have to say that one of my favorite is Spring Cove Marina in Solomons Island. I have met a live aboard that lived there all season, including the winter. As far as price, I am not sure how bad the monthly would be but it is still a very nice marina.

Are you wanting to voyage open ocean or stay coastal. If you stay coastal look at the Catalina 380. It has a nice aft cabin and it seems to be a nice boat.

Stingray Point Marina, Deltaville, VA is worth a look. OTTER has been there for years. They are on the Web, don't have the URL handy, suggest a quick google.

Well, for what it's worth, Southport Marina on the bottom edge of N.C. has open slips. I'm paying about 7 dollars a foot a month. 30 amp, cable, water of course, nice showers and heads, and a beautiful town to see. Wilmington's only 30 minutes up the road, and a HELL of a lot to do. It's just cheaper, and quieter to stay in Southport.

Now, the deal of the century here is, (and not a handfull of people know about it), if you want a haul, way up the Cape Fear River, just moments by water from Wilmington, is a quiet little yard where you can do your own work, live on the hill while you do it, with power, water, shower, etc. I can find out the blocking rate, I'm there about everyday, but I keep a boat there for 200 bucks a month. I LOVE the damn place. And if you want it, they've got a yard man that's the best body man I've ever seen. And a contract mechanic that's an artist. There are not a lot of yards left like this anymore. Cape Fear Boat Works.

(BTW, I am not affiliated with this yard in any way). I'm a customer like everybody else..

If you truly want to get south, I highly recommend Lady's Island Marina in Beaufort South Carolina. We spent a year and a half there. Chuck

My parents keep their boat at Crowne Point marina in Hayes, VA. It's a nice full service marina with very reasonable rates, good access to the bay but north of some of the heavy shipping traffic.
