Does anyone have any information on how to remove and install a new transmission cable in a 15 year old Merriman pedestal? I have removed the cable ends from the transmission and shift lever but cannot free the cable from inside the pedestal. My email is greggreen@hypercon.com Thanks. Greg

I think I can help!

Greg: I believe that there is a large screw on the forward side of your pedestal. This screw holds a clamp on the inside of the pedestal that keeps the cable housing from moving on the pedestal end. If you loosen it a couple of turns you should be able to free the cable on the pedestal end. Be sure not to loosen it too much because I think that the clamp can come loose and it may be a bear to reattach. Hope this helps.

STEVE IS CORRECT

BUT IT'S NOT FOWARD, IT'S ON THE AFT SIDE ABOUT A FOOT DOWN FROM THE COMPASS, ALSO IT'S STAINLESS IN AN ALUMINIUM TUBE AND A ALUMINIUM CLAMP BRACKET, I HAD TO GRIND MINE FREE, AND REPLACE THE BOLT.

Thanks

Thanks. You are absolutely right about the clamp. I managed to drop it to the bottom of the pedestal not once but twice! It was alot of fun fishing it out. Now it's repaired and I never want to get that intimate with that pedestal again.
