My initial thought on this was the original poster should look up White Spot Pirates/Untie the Lines on YouTube. Watch all of Nike's videos in order, and begin to understand what it's like to fix up a boat which is even remotely capable of this type of undertaking. There's a hell of a lot of disappointment that Nike had to go through with her boat Karl.

As for considering doing this in a Mac26? No way should this be attempted in such an inshore daysailer type boat.

i am putting out to sea shortly off the east coast first to Florida
then through the panama canal to california to berth her on the beautiful delta..
whereby i should know hows to sail well by then since a friend wants a rid to costa rica
The girls a mess but has all working parts. i be trying out a new saltwater electric motor
and am going to learn how to do rigging and all that along the way.........
could use a knowledgeable matey or someone wanting to learn like me along the way...
this is a girly boat.........................................

Since one person questioned me on my comment to respect the water, think about it folks. Respect for the water include taking/drinking water in heat, wearing a life jacket and in a storm being tethered to a boat, etc... In other words use your head about safety for yourself and others around water. That comment came from a friend of mine who was a President many years ago.

I know exactly what your talking bout. I have worked Shrimpboats and Tugs on the lower Mississippi for years. You have to respect the water. That don't mean. "Well I'm jumping overboard and since I respect the water it wouldn't drown me" You have to use common since.

I would take everyone's advice here don't do it... I'm not a sailor yet. But I have worked the mouth of the Mississippi to a hundred miles off the coast and it can get very rough there. I have run the ICW from Pascagoula, ms to over in Tx. And even that can be aggravating because of the obstacles in and on the water. All in all. It is by no means a boat ride you can learn along the way.......

Last time I ask for any advice hasta LA vista
Lizdom, were you asking for advice? I think you were asking for approval. Since you didn't get it, you will blame us for not being who you wanted us to be.

You have gotten good advice. You started with an assumption and built off of that. We showed you the flaw upon which you built your plan. We are clearly unappologetic for being sober and uninfluenced by the enchantment under which you may have fallen.

I am sure we all pray you heed the advice given in these pages.

Just because it floats doesn't make it seaworthy.

God Speed,

Andrew

agprice22 was right, too.

It's amazing, on this and other forums, when OP's ask questions and don't like the replies, then leave in a huff.

In this case, she even deleted her own OP, which is really bad form.

However, she neglected to note her own post reply #21, which includes the original question.

Dodo.

Hope she makes it.

Over the years I have seen much worse.
At least is was a graceful exit. One guy who argued passionately on how you didn't need a water maker because you could train yourself (in his case his daughter) to drink sea water!!
He also had a lot of other fine ideas, as long as living a long life was on your mind.

Or the guy who was just plain obnoxious to every one and even sent personal emails if you disagreed with him on line!

A questionable post, but I don't see any questions being asked here...For some, the question mark key is hard to find. ;)
