Are you seriously taking a mac 25. Unless the boat has been extensively modified in the cabin it may be an uncomfortable trip. I hope you have gone over all the rigging with a fine tooth comb. Also you will want to be very careful with the weather. These are not big water boats without a lot of experience. Check out Sumner's recent trip to the Bahamas on his Mac. He has done a lot of mods on his boat.

IF this is a real request, not a troll post, trailer that boat west OR get professional help to guide you on what it required for blue water!

That boat is great for the Delta, but not for the trip you are planning without a LOT of modifications.

I'm with Chief on this one. Had a Mac Venture 25 some 30 years ago. Sailed the west coast of Fl. in it. Had more than enough scary moments and this area has some of the calmest coastal sailing grounds you can find. Do not attempt this if you value your life.

this reminds me of a line in a song... "she's alright a leavin', but she wont be back"...

just because it floats now doesnt mean it will continue to float:D

the mac 25 is NOT an open water boat, and for long open water passages, you either need a lot of boat or a lot of luck, and sometimes both.
for the the trip you are planning, its an unreasonable expectation to think your luck will hold for that long. but that IS what you need if you are counting on that boat offering much resistance to the open ocean, because it wont.....

It's a little late for an April Fool's joke; which, I assume this some kind of joke, unless you're perhaps a grandchild, or grand something, of Robin Graham trying to recapture old glory for the family name!? Even then, in a MacGregor 25?

I'll clue you guys in on something. This situation is so absurd that Sumner looked at her public profile and didn't even make a comment on this! Chief

Hes' the type of guy that if he doesnt have something positive to say, he wont say anything:D:D

me too;)... as much as im a fan of the mac 25, Im positive that even if the trip doesnt end in disaster, it will end far short of california... in that boat.

I'm not knocking Mac's. I wouldn't even consider it in my boat. Its pretty hefty but its still just a coast hopper! People must know what they have and act accordingly. Chief

yes this is a very bad idea for the equipment they have ....looks like to me they need a friend that knows something about sailing the blue water but after reading the comments about this i am just wondering if it may have scared them off of not only the planned trip but also from sailing ....if you need someone to help you learn to sail there are better ways to accomplish that other than planning a trip of the magnitude ...find some locals in your area and ask for some help ...sailors a good lot and willing to help anyone interested in sailing so don't get discouraged ...just slow down and take one or two steps at a time instead of biting of more than you or your boat can handle ...as time goes on in your learning curve you will understand the reactions you have read on here ...just dont do that proposed trip its is too much for a beginner and the kind of boat you have ...do a search on here about getting a boat blue water ready and you will see a lot of good input about that and it will help you understand why this is not a good idea ....don't give up your dream just don't initiate it at this time ....good luck to you

Capt. Voss went on some awesome voyages in a canoe. BUT, he was a seasoned sailor!

I see in the photo the boat is on a trailer. It's a very light weight boat, so even a small car could pull it. And, a car to pull it would be less money than the price for the amount of food you will need for a voyage that long. ;)

And yes, it would be a good boat for the Delta, and you could even venture into the SF bay with it, after you build up some experience with it.

Is there a reason you bought it on the east coast or was it given to you? For the expense of getting you across the country to the boat and it back to Calif. you might find a very similar boat in Calif. for the same or less.

If you don't have a vehicle you can use then one option would be to fly east and rent a U-haul van to pull the trailer with. There again that is a lot of money with flights, renting a vehicle one way and gas and possibly motels.

You would also need to service the trailer and at least grease the wheel bearings and if the tires are over 4-5 years old you will need to buy new tires regardless of how they look or I'd lay money on the fact the ones on the trailer wouldn't make the trip without coming apart.

Good luck,

Sumner
