Anybody live near there, do any sailing out of or know anything about it? What is the water depth getting in and out of there? Marinas? Guess it is strictly offshore sailing? Or is this not a good place to live and sail out of?

Sailed into it a couple olf times.
The inlet has a marked channel deep enough for my boat (4.5 ft draft) at
least until it doglegs to the nw. i have been to the marina at the very end
for fuel and have anchored out in a side arm close to it, but depth at low tide
is a concern there.
At the dogleg there is a marina with a fuel dock (don't recall its name). Somewhat to my surprise I found overnight dockage there. Seems the marina was surprised as well by my request. Not many transients go there.
There are restaurants among the condos behind the beach but almost no
shops close to this marina. The commercial life is found at the very end of
the inlet.
The inlet is used mostly by sports fishermen; I recall no evidence of
larger sailboats or live-aboards. The nearest inlets are Wynyah Bay to the
South (well buffered and tricky)) and Little River to the North of Myrtle Beach.
In between it's open water.
Driving through Murrell's Inlet I found it be very attractive, and while close to
the concrete jungle of Myrtle Beach very different from it. But Georgetown, SC
would be my choice for this general area.

Murrels Inlet is full of old style southern charm and compared to the chaos of Myrtle Beach is a wonderful place. It is however not cheap. As noted above, the inlet is used by sport fishers and charter boat fishers, rarely by sail boats. you can throw a rock from one jetty to the other side and depths vary greatly with the tide. If you are interested in parking a boat in the area, consider the various marinas on the Waccamaw River downstream from Socastee; they are all within the area bounded by Georgetown and Myrtle Beach, and have much better shelter from coastal storms.
