Hi all
I'm looking at purchasing an Oday 322. I beleive its around a 36 ft. unit. Price is good. How or where would I be able to find out exactly who owns it and if it's a current registration. It's being sold out of a lot by a auto dealer who says the fellow owed him money. I just want to be sure it wasn't stolen or something bad before I hand out some cash. It is in pretty good shape. Missing tyhe keel. I'm capable of the repair, just need to find out where I might get spacs for keel as to weight etc. or where I might be able to find one. Again the price seems good, motor is good, sails etc are good. comes with tri axle tailer which isn't too bad really.

Hi First of all, some pics would really help but here goes. The keel for the 332 is a bolt on wing keel at 3850 lbs. The thing that I think would be a good idea is have an out of water survey done by someone with years of knowledge. You need to know what happened to the keel, did it fall off, was it knocked off, is there any damage to hull and the keel bolt ways into the hull. These are things a survey will answer, I have had 12 boats and I would never purchase a used boat without one. Its a couple of hundred bucks but it can save you thousands. What Kaymar said! Where dat keel? On the sea floor? Was it sold for scrap? Why? Was it worth more than the boat?

Lead is currently at .95 usd per pound on the London metal exchange. The new keel will cost at least 5 grand.

As the guys are saying, without a keel, the boat is useless. Even if you were to find one, it would be important to know what happened to the original- the rest of the boat may have been damaged when the keel was lost. Without a lot more information, and the sure knowledge that you can get a keel and the boat is ok, this might be a good boat to walk away from. -Paul

Does the seller have a title for the boat? This is a headache looking for a place to happen if you ask me.

Here is some pics. Actually boat is in Mexico at auto lot. doesn't know where keel is. Said that's the way he got it. Not sure where it might be. Hull seems to have no other damage. Interior is fine, motor is clean. Boat was taken care of by owner by the looks of things. Someone stole the wheel and compass. Sails look good and dry. Needs a good cleaning inside but other than that it seems fine.

Looks like it hit a reef and the keel was lost based of the way the stub has pieces ripped out of it.

I recall this model boat was famous for losing their keel. I'm sure that was addressed in a oprevious thread-post.

Save your money and look for something more complete. Even at free, with no title, you will spend big money getting it back in the water.

I'm thinking they will take 10K. Mast and sails all look good. Interior is in good shape, just cleaning required, Hull looks clean all around. No other physical damage. Boats been sitting for at least 2 years. Someone stripped compass and wheel. Comes with tri axle trailer. motor is very clean. Who ever had it took care of it. Was taken in on a trade. I'm very capable in repair of anything. Just wonder where I might find a keel or how they where built. I've been reading posts on other sites and learning as I go on whats involved. I'll be doing a title search here soon.

They were cast. Lead with 1% antimony for strength. A winged keel would need a split mold to be removed.

Better start collecting tire weights.

Also the stub the keel bolts on to will have to be rebuilt - better than new since they were prone to falling off apparently. That may mean the removal of some of the interior to allow the glassing to extend a ways on each side of the stub. There may be cross members that have to be removed (cut out as they will be fiber glass) to allow this, then re-glassed in properly.

ps I think by the time you're in the water ready to go you will have more in the boat than it will be worth.

On the other hand with Mexico's weather you can use epoxy outdoors year round.
