I was thinking about king starboard.
Should I redo the whole panel and include the hatch board side parts that secure them in place in one go?
That would be even less wood to varnish!
I was thinking of using ½” .
Or should I leave those boards there for the hatch boards and only make smaller panels to cover the holes?

Table Drop leaf hinges are plenty strong for this but have a profile that you would have to recess into the bottom of the table panel.

Quick update
At the moment we will be using wood for the panel until the accounts finds more money for plastic panels, so a temporary measure.
Only did one side to see if we like it.
Epoxied the wood and 2 coats of Cetol on at the moment, the panel is just laying in place, not fixed yet.
what do you all think?
