That's cheaper than my 5 lb. CO2 extinguisher.
I was quoted that when shopping for a co2 5lb unit. They asked my application and said that they could supply a clean agent one for approx the same price.
Can't remember the brand. I plan to go visit them again after boat is launched.

I've seen the chemical ones discharged in a safety display and would only use one to physically beat out a fire. Until you see the mess these things make .................. then you'll then understand why I would never use one in a boat except as a last resort.
That's one of many reasons why a hands on fire practice session is an eye opener for many.

About the only DYI approved installs are hanging extinguishers....
These are effectively hanging extinguishers. Same bracket.same cylinder. Different head. No plumbing or nozzles.

Can't see it mattering. When you also carry co2 and powder backup.

you need to figure out who is certified to inspect the type of system that you plan to install
Checked the same way as the other handhelds. Remove from bracket, take to safety company along with other extinguishers that are aboard.
Every safety company I have dealt with can inspect them.

Our disposal society includes fire suppression devices. It is less expensive to buy a new extinguisher than have it inspected and certified. 2 ABC's for around $30... hard to beat

Has anyone made or found a way to “remotely” use a ball valve?
If I can open and close it without having to crawl in the access panel and look behind the sink drain, I would be so happy!

maybe a pulley system? Metal rod?
any ideas???

Here are some thoughts.

Ball valves are easy when you have direct force rotating the ball shaft using the leverage provided by the arm. A simple quarter turn. If you are thinking about doing it from further away, the problem will be that the 1/4 turn of the shaft will be needed. If you can approach the shaft in line you might be able to use a T handle.

The standard ball valve. The handle turns 90º to open or close the valve.

A T-handle moves in the same 90º but the rotation is from above the shaft.

Now imagine the T-handle but 3 ft long inline with the ball valve shaft.

when we had an O'day 28, the raw water valve was at the bottom of the cockpit lazarette. It was a quarter turn ball valve that was oriented on it's side so the when closed the arm was vertical. After haul out it was re-oriented so the when closed the arm was athwartship. Then a 3' piece of PVC an inch and a half in diameter with a "T" was glued on one end. The other end had a glue coupling with a threaded female end. Into the the threaded end was a copper male to female 1.5" connector. 2 cuts slightly more than the width of the valve arm were made and the what was now a tab was bent into the connector. That PVC coupler was oriented so that the slot in the copper was aligned to the T handle and then glued. This " tool" was set down atop the valve when needed. the T provided leverage to turn the valve either open or closed and the T indicated the valve's position.
Something along these lines might work for you.

I'm not sure I'd trust a $40.00 electric ball valve on a boat I owned, especially in saltwater, but there are more expensive ones on the market that one might trust to keep a boat afloat. The product information sheets on a fitting such as this would be very helpful in choosing the correct electric ball valve.

We have a scrap teak stick, attached to the raw water inlet 1/4 turn ball valve.

I chose a valve with a hole in the end of the handle for that reason, but you can easily drill a hole in the handle end.
A stick or piece of pipe is stiff enough to push and pull.

Common often don't have enough stiffness for pushing a ball valve handle, but there are ones that would work.

While a marine quality solenoid valve would be ideal in in inaccessible places, I would always lean towards a simple cable or extended handle. KISS.
My raw water valve stick will probably outlive me and the valve.
