Hi all,

Looking for replacement LED courtesy lights for my 2003 386.

Currently, there are 3 red and 4 green, behind a panel on each side in the cabin.

I’d like to replace them all with Red LEDs, as the Greens are way too bright to use at night.

Has anyone changed these or know of a source?

Looking on Hunter Owners, they have the courtesy lights for other models, but not the 386.

I did not recall my 2004 Hunter 366 having courtesy lights. My 2005 Hunter 46 has red ones in each cabin with red lens. Can you just change the lens on your 386?

These lights are mounted behind a cover at the outboard edges of the headliner, red over the Nav station and green over the galley. I’d like to replace the greens with red, too, and also replace the reds with LED if they are not.

I’ll pull it apart next weekend and post pics and dimensions.

I completed this project over the summer. Turns out there were small white incandescent bulbs with a colored paint reflection casting the red and green hue. These were labeled “courtesy” on the panel.

I replaced all of them with sockets and dim red LEDs from Amazon. Reduced power draw from 50 wats to less that 5 and good dim red night lighting for the main salon.

Pics below of starboard side install over the galley. There is a similar set over the port side nav station. Both are connected to the same “courtesy” breaker.

JimP,
I’ve done a bunch of research in LEDs for my H 376. As long as you can figure out the nomenclature for the bulb base there is a replacement LED to fit.
1000 Bulbs, Amazon, Bulbtown, Westmarine, Defender, etc. (FYI, www.bulbtown.com has a good online catalogue of bulb and base types)
Just find the base type, then go to any of the online suppliers and search by the type.
Cheers.

These were small sealed units, so I replaced them with G-10 sockets and G-10 dim red LED bulbs. As I said above, the OEM set drew >50 watts for seven bulbs, and now down to a little less than 5, plus no heat and dim red, perfect for night sailing or night light at anchor.

Great Jim.
I’ve replaced all of my flush mount interior fixture bulbs with LEDs, for about $40.00. Added a blue LED fixture below the skipper’s seat and replaced the white courtesy fixture, at the bottom of the steering/instrument console, with the same. The blue to please my 1st Mate.
She wanted more blue lights for docked, moored or anchored evenings too. So I ran wiring through the rearmost overhead cover stainless bow tube. that Was a bit of a task, fishing for wires through 375” drilled holes in the tube, but worth it in the long run. 1st Mate is happy, Captain is happy.
Cheers!
Tim

Great idea. The US Navy uses red at night in the berthing and exterior vestibule to save night vision.

Hello “Crusty”,
Red lights to minimize the lights effect on night vision. I was an infantry squad leader, Mobile Riverine, in the Mekong Delta. Most of the time, when we weren’t out letting Charlie try to kill us, our bunks were on barracks ships. They were anchored in the Song My Tho off of Dong Tam, headquarter fort the 9th Infantry Division. Red light above the berthing area at night.

Funny how things bring back memories. Thank you for your service.

I was just working in a Riverine Squadron building at Little Creek testing the HVAC systems.
