Looking for flotilla buddies heading south

Generally speaking, most folks headed for the Abacos will come a little farther south, to somewhere like Fort Pierce or Lake Worth. There they will wait for an appropriate weather window, make repairs, add provisions, make friends with others who are doing the same, and when winds shift to ESE or more southerly, with a forecast indicating they will remain that way for several days, allowing the Stream to settle down, they will depart either singly or in groups.
The schedule doesn't get tight until the window opens. Then you have about two or three days of reasonable travel to make it to a spot like Spanish Cay or Green Turtle where you can comfortably ride out the whipping tail of the front that closes the window with winds from W and NW and N for a day or two. Some will overnight in the lee of Great Sale, but that can be rough at times.

I have never made the trip to bahama's yet but when cruising the keys and east coast Florida heard talking on VHF asking when and who heading to bahama's and looking to buddy up.

Thanks Steve. I understand what you are saying there. Am definitely going way south before trying to cross, was simply trying to pick up travelling buddies early on to go south with. Seadaddler, I will be listening for that. Am still mainly shooting for getting up the East Coast this spring/summer. But would really like to get to Bahamas while still too cold to head north. Have to see how the annoying but necessary aspect of daily grind works out, hope I get the time to see Abaco before too hot to go.
