There is a foam material that was lining the hatch cover of the engine compartment on my Island Packet 31. 1986. It is old and has lost all flexibility and is allowing water to enter engine compartment at times heavy rain. This foam material is moderately dense, is glued to the inner surface of the engine compartment hatch. It is not sprayed in as it is loose in the middle. It is glued on the edges. It appears similar to something that might be underneath the hood of a vehicle, although I've never seen anything exactly like it on an automobile.
If anyone knows what this material might be, or a similar material to it, please let me know. Its purpose is to form a seal around the age so as to decrease the amount of water should the scuppers get overwhelmed with especially heavy rains. Also of course act as a noise dampener and insulator
Okay, here we go again with upside down pictures and only allowing me to post one picture her reply. So I will have to do each picture individually. I am awaiting the upload complete before hitting submit and also the pictures are taken up right and I am not sure whether coming in upside down

Just to lose the loop, I found it at an industrial HVAC supplier, armaflex foam, sold in four by four sheets, about 1.75 inches thick, $80. Glued it to the underside of the engine room hatch with 3M spay adhesive bought at auto store. Works we'll. the foam makes a good seal to keep out water. Success!
