Hello to everyone,
I am a fairly new Catalina 30 owner and a first time poster on this site. I am wanting to purchase a chartplotter/fishfinder and would like some advice and input. I have raytheon st4000 auto pilot with wind, depth and speed instruments that came with the boat. I have set a $1000+/- budget and would like to get the most for my money. Do I need to find something compatable with my existing electronics or is that an issue at all? I have looked at a Garmin 545s and a Raymarine A57d. Could I get some input and advice from more experienced sailors or is there something better out there for me to look at? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Joey and S/V Sunset Seeker

my only comment is : In this economy I would tend toward raymarine(ratheon) because they have some big defense contracts that help keep them going during these times.
and most of their stuff is hi-grade. just my opinion.

I'm in the market as were . Colonial Beach
Garmin is a safe bet as well for GPS. They are also branching out and they are putting out wind and speed instruments. I have been very pleased with my Garmin Chart Plotter and I intend to purchase another Garmin down the road. They are well know for their GPS and they are known to be an industry leader.
