Looking for bilge access on S2 6.8 (1978)

I'm a new boat owner and I'm looking on what the easiest way to access the bilge on an S2 6.8 is? Do I have to pull up the carpet in the cabin?

Also, I'd love to get a manual for the S2 6.8 or better specs/diagram, so if anyone knows where one is available, I'd really appreciate it.

Wow. Cool looking boat. I wish I could help more, but there is little info on that S2 on the internet. It might not even have a bilge with a swing keel.

One idea is that it might be under a companionway step. The access in my Lancer 25 was under a step that was mounted onto a molded area aft of the keel. It had four screws through it. Removing them provided bilge access.

I've just owned my S2 6.8 since August, but I'm pretty sure that the only bilge access is under the cockpit. There is no bilge to access from the cabin.

I don't have a scanner so I'll have to borrow one so it might be a while, but I've got it on my to-do list. I haven't seen one on the Net anywhere.

Nice site MKB! Congratulations on your acquisition of one pampered little boat on a trailer at a nice price! Stored inside for its whole life...wow. You seem to have the sailing down, except for the sailing part. Which is...if its broken...fix it yourself because nobody will do as good a job as you and you can't afford or don't want to pay their hourly rate anyway. This site and the main sailboatowners site are good resources. Chances are that someone has done what you need to do before. For example, there are kits available to keep your non-skid pattern if you fix the gelcoat cracks in the cockpit. There is also stuff just to seal up the cracks. Cosmetic gelcoat cracks are a fact of life on sailboats. S2 is particularly known for the fine quality of its 'glass work, but spider cracks in some locations are common.

the only gelcoat cracks i have found on my 1979 model 9.2 are in the cockpit locker lids and i am thinking about useing kiwi grip on those places...any thoughts on this any one .......

From what I have seen kiwi grip is a good choice. A friend of mine just redid his non skid with it and it took two coats but came out nice. You just have to take care with masking of course. I have been toying with the idea of faux teak inserts, but it would likely be too much work. Kiwi grip sounds good though, as the white cockpit seats always look dirty and a light gray would look nice.

Chongman, there is no bilge access on the 6.8, other than what's under the cockpit and berths. That's as close as you can get. There is a "sump" at the aft end of the keel, which you can get to from under the cockpit. That's where you'll want your bilge pump. It stops at the bulkhead at the forward end of the under cockpit area.
