Looking for Beige Colored Sealant

We recently had to remove the interior trim in the v-berth of our 405 to get to the windlass motor. It had been nicely sealed at the top with a beige/tan colored sealant that matched the trim color almost exactly.

Does anyone know what that might be? It is very flexible - it peeled off completely clean from both surfaces with almost no effort.

The only sealant at West Marine that comes in a tan color is 5200 - which I know is much more rigid than this.

Any ideas?

I used a water-based one from Ace Hardware.

Sealant

I've purchased caulking in assorted colors at HD. I steer clear of any that contain silicone, however.

If you want to use DOW795 here are some of the colors.

This product is best reserved for sealing ports and such.

If your problem is on an interior area, you may want to do something like Rick D. mentioned.

Please, please do NOT use 5200! It should be a law that you need a prescription to get a tube of that stuff.

I bought the Ace hardware store silicone sealant in Almond color. Perfect match, redid the heads and the fwd cabin hatch trim.

3m5200

For several years now I've followed the advice of our local and well respected boat repair yard. Below the waterline I use 3M5200 and 4200 above. If I want a strong semi-permanent bond between materials I use 3M5200 regardless of location. I would not use either of these products for Karen's application, instead a construction grade caulk from HD.

For an interior decorative type caulk I really like:
DAP® ALEX PLUS® Acrylic Latex Caulk Plus Silicone

It comes in lots of colors and is amazingly easy to clean up and is water soluble. Use a damp rag and your finger with luke warm water to get a nice feathered fillet. The silicone in it is not to offensive.

If you want a product containing no silicone DAP Dynaflex 230 is the latex only version and it too comes in a tan color.

Terry: According to what I have read 4200 and 5200 are basically the same product. They are both Polyurethane Adhesive/Sealants. Beyond that 5200 is only supposed to be used where a "permanent" bond is appropriate. This may be something like the keel to hull joint or when the hull is being bonded to other fiberglass components that are supposed to be there until the vessel goes to Dave Jones Locker.

I just hope my yard never uses 5200 for any thru hull fittings or anything that may ever need to be repaired or replaced.

Sikaflex 292 comes in beige. Its a single component polyurethane that I used to rebed my strut bolts through the hull. Our local marine store has it here in Alameda. I don't recall if it is available at West Marine.

Thanks for all the ideas! I agree - I do NOT want to use 5200....I really just want to seal the rather large crack - more of a cosmetic thing than anything. Of course, we'll need to very occasionally remove that fiberglass cover at the bow to access the windlass motor ('cause it's gonna fail again...but that's another story!) So, I don't want it to be an adhesive caulk at all - the stuff that was there peeled off in one piece without leaving any residue and required no tool - just pried the end up and pulled it off. That's what I was so impressed with and want to duplicate.

I'll include a photo here so you'll be able to see the area I need to seal. I'll look at each of the suggestions and see if I can determine which one will work best.

Almond

I called Hunter Marine with the same question. The tech said that he could sell me a tube but it is much cheaper to buy any almond colored caulk that you can get from Ace, Home Depot, Lowes, etc.
