Window Unit In Companionway
We got along for years in south Florida with a 6,500 BTU window unit in the companionway. Yes, it was a bit of a hassle to get in and out of the boat when it was in place, but it was also CHEAP!We had a GE unit with a plastic case (no rust). I seem to recall it was under $200. We made a plywood insert that filled the space between the edges of the AC unit and the companionway. This caused the unit to have a slight tilt toward the inside of the boat which meant that the condensation headed into the boat. We hung a funnel beneath the AC unit and a length of hose directed the condensation into the galley sink. When we sailed, we simply placed the AC unit in the saloon floor. Gary
