Looking for additional stanchions

I'm planning to change my boarding gate to a midship location by adding a stanchion on each side to create a small gate area. This will help with dockside boarding by having the gate at the beamiest location. The problem is that the stanchions for my boat ('85 H40) are the tapered type which are seated in a base made up of a short length of extruded aluminum channel set on it's side. Although the stanchion post itself is a common enough item, I can't find the base anywhere. Short of having one fabbed up in aluminum or stainless is there a source anywhere that deals in parts from "junked" boats? I've already checked the ones in the Tampa Bay area.

I have the same problem

I have a 1985 Hunter 40 with the same problem. My dock does not go far enough aft to use the stern gate and I don't plan on backing in my slip. If you find a location for the stantions pleas let me know. Thanks, Richard Provensal

got mine thru hunter

I had to replace two stanchions on my 1988 hunter 40. Although the base sounds different from yours. I did get mine from Hunter at about $50.00 each. You may want to try"Sailorman" in Ft. Lauderdale they deal in surplus, salvage and new items. I try to go there any time I'm in Ft. Lauderdale, I can spend hours just looking and its amazing what you can find there.
