Input on getting a E27
Berry,I could write a book on items that I have upgaded on my E27, new electrical wiring, all new plumbing both fresh and sanitary, nothing like a clean smelling head to keep the ladies happy!, pressurized water system, deck speakers that clip on the stantions, new motor mounts, cutlass bearing, running rigging, bottom paint, refinishing of cabin brightwork, new stove. I'm in year three of restoration of this boat. Things to look for, mast dimpeling by spreaders, water getting into the keel area, cabin roof, poor insulation in galley cooler, poor factory bedding of deck hardware, original wiring both 12v and 110v needing attention, poor cockpit drains, gate valves for thru hulls, etc. This is just a sample, but any boat you go looking for in 70's vintage whether made by Ericson or other will have it's share of problems. With that said, I this boat has become part of the family. My wife and I stayed out around 12 nights this summer onboard and we love it! I have also sailed the boat in 40mph winds with a reefed main and the boat took it in stride. In light winds on a couple occasions it still pulled away from a catalina 25 and a catalina 26 capri in beer can races. The boat sails better than it's PRHF rating but it is no speed demon either. Just a comfortable, easy to single hand, cruser/racer. Doug. If you want to talk in person send me an E-mail at doug.harmon@earthlink.net and I would be more than happy to give you a call and give you more input or if you would like you can drive out and look at my E27 in Lake Geveva, WI 45 minutes drive. There a 75 E27 for sale in Milwaukee that looks like one worth checking out.
