After Hurricane Floyd passed through the Hampton Roads area I discovered one of the stanchions on my 1984 Hunter 34 was in the water. The aluminum stanchion base that attaches to the toe rail broke sometime during the storm. Part of the base is sitting on the bottom under the boat. I can't explain how it happened unless someone from the marina was checking on the lines and used that stanchion to board the boat (there were no lines attached to or near the stanchion). Even if that was the case the aluminum base must have had a significant fault in it. Otherwise it would have taken a mac truck to break it. In any case, I now am looking for a source to replace the aluminum base. I called Hunter Marine and they told me they don't stock them and the company that made them is out of business. Does anybody know where I can find a replacement? The base is shaped to fit exactly on the toe rail and has four bolts mounting it to the rail, two on the vertical part of the rail and two on the horizontal part of the rail.If all else fails I will have someone atempt to repair the broken base.
