Hunter 28.5 cedar creek lake, tx
My wife and I live just south of Dallas, TX. We are sailors out at Cedar Creek Lake and are proud owners of a '85 Hunter 28.5 that we are on every weekend come rain or shine. We spend the weekends on her all summer. I am a high school teacher so we have a lot of time on the water during the summer. Our goal is to pack it all in 10 years from now and buy our bigger boat to cruise on.

We spend some time in Houston as our youngest attends Rice. We were wandering if it is possible to catch a ride at Kemah for a day. We have only sailed on inland lakes and want to experience the bay or gulf. Our dream would be to be able to meet a couple we could ride share with for a couple of days cruising. Are we crazy for thinking this is possible?

How would a couple go about meeting others that would be willing to ride share out in the bay or gulf for a day or two or three?

Finding a boat to ride/crew on shouldn't be hard for a couple of hours in the bay, but finding a boat to crew on for a Gulf sail is much harder as not many boats go out to the Gulf in this area except for the races like the Harvest Moon Regatta which I linked for ya.

The rules require at least 4 capable sailors with waiver forms signed to do the race, so some are looking for crew.

There is also an overnight race in April which is basically one big beer can race. And then there is Race To The Border the first week of June that goes from Galveston to South Padre.

I try to get offshore 3-4 times a year but it seems each long weekend I'm waiting till the last minute to decide if I want to go because of the weather.
