I've decided to reduce the number of sailboats I have from 4 to 3 by replacing a 17' Islander daysailer and an Oday 20 (cruiser type) with a single boat suitable for a shallow lake with rocks. The Islander is a centerboard boat, but sitting on the rail in windy weather is too wet a ride for my frequent passengers. The Oday cockpit is too small for all of my frequent passengers to relax. I'd like something about 19', heavy swing keel (& tough), kick-up rudder, large cockpit, small cabin for porta potty, and capable in gusty conditions. Any suggestions?

These boats are easily trailered, and people seem to cruise very long distances in them. Their publicity info claims that one was sailed from LA to Hawaii.

Seaward Fox

Our first boat was an early Seaward Fox, which is only 17', but with its 8' beam, it was a roomy mini yatch. Winged, shoal keel draws 12" or 15" as I recall. Big cockpit and a modest cabin. Ours was the sloop rig with self tending jib, which made it very easy to sail. Later versions were cat rigged with a carbon fiber mast. We were at the Cleveland boat show many years ago, looking for our first boat. I was looking at a Siren 17 when my wife found the Fox across the isle, and we both fell in love with it. It was a very stable and dry boat, and with her very traditional lines, she drew comments where ever we went. We hated to sell her, but then child #5 came along, and we were itching to do some extended cruising. Fair winds, Rob S/V Kinship
