I am new to this site so thought I would send out a general help request. I am new to sailing and was looking around for a sailboat. I Like the Mac 19 bower sailboat and think it would be fun to trailer around. Problem is there are none around where I live Winnipeg Canada.

What I would like to find is a good well equipped Mac 19 boat turnkey ready to go. It would be nice if the boat was used in mostly fresh water lakes I have been told that is the best. I am not sure of the questions I should be asking the seller so does anyone have a list of questions I should be asking them?

Also since I would have to ship or pick up the boat what things should I be considering since it has to clear the boarder I think I would have a better chance finding one in the USA. Ok so that's my starting point. Any help I could get would be great oh and if you know of one that is for sale let me know.

Have a great one and thanks in advance 0)

If you want a Canadian 19 I saw one in Yellowknife but not turn key. Looks to need some TLC. Message me if you want more info.

I saw this in July it is sitting by Yellowknife Bay at http://www.narwal.ca a B&B.
It belongs to a son in law I think and may not even be for sale. It was looking forlorn sans mast. I didn't inquire as to its status.

Here is one in Ottawa. http://www.kijiji.ca/v-sailboat/ott...ler/589078493?enableSearchNavigationFlag=true
You can check different provinces with Kijiji.ca
There were 3 19's for sale in Aug in Ont.
Join Uship.com for shipping quotes. If you are flexible the price goes way down.
I had quotes from $6000 to $900 to bring a boat from New Orleans to Detroit. The $6000 was 2 day delivery and $900 was 4 weeks delivery.

Get the owner to take you sailing and motoring. Make sure everything works well. If your new to boating you want to minimize your risk from whoever you buy it from. Be willing to walk away if your not comfortable but also make sure you understand your boating needs well as well as the limitations of the vessel you intend to purchase. Financially the easy is buying the boat be prepared for ongoing maintenance, and unexpected costs that arise like how old are the sails, do you need new ones? How many hours on the engine, was it service and properly stored over the winter (fogging of engine), how are the zincs etc. Keep doing your research as you are but you may want consider visiting an insurance agent also and ask them how much to ensure a $10000 boat what information they require. They should provide you with a vessel survey for insurance purposes (not a marine survey which is not likely for a Mac 19 below $10000) which may also turn your mind to the condition and value of the vessel. Good luck.

I found using one of the search all of craiglist sites... I think search tempest is one....for searching in the US. And like finding41 said Kijiji for canada. You probably have a way better shot in the us. I bought mine in Washington state. A bit further drive for you than me but not too bad..I had a different approach when I was looking for a boat because I knew I had a long drive. I use to ask the seller to tell what, if anything, was wrong with the boat not all the good things about the boat and get them to send lots of pictures. I found the majority people were quite helpful if you were that committed on buying a boat and driving that far to look at it. The other thing is I find it unlikely somebody would be selling a small sailboat to make a quick buck and if they were you could pick up on that pretty quick.

Definitely look south of the border...

Not sure why, but north of the 49th seems to add 30 to 40% to the price.

If you want to wait until next June, there will be a "true turnkey" 26S for sale. It's been improved for cruising over the past 8 years by it's "picky" owners.

They might even be convinced to tow it half way there...
