Looking for a H26 Trailer

A week and a half ago I ran the trailer wheels of my H26 trailer off the side of a broken-edged and six inch burm drop-off Mexican highway. The tires blew, the trailer went into a skid and my whole rig went off the road. Lucky for me it was almost level right there and the van stayed on it's wheels. The boat and trailer however weren't so lucky. The trailer tipped, the boat broke loose from the trailer and rolled a 360. The stanchions and stern rail seats got flattened, the hull took some scrapes and gouges, my $500.00 companion-way doors got busted, but everything considered the boat faired pretty well. I think the mast, which stayed tied on top, is even OK although the crutch broke off. Its a helluva note to "turtle" your boat on the hard! My Boat U.S. insurance investigator said as long as the water ballast tank or the swing keel connection (the swing keel stayed secured up under the boat) were not damaged, the boat is repairable. The trailer however is shot. Twisted tongue, bent axels, broken off bunks risers and fenders, etc. I'm going to be needing a new trailer for my H26. If they fix my boat, I'm still going to be doing a lot of trailering so I need a GOOD trailer. Any ideas where I can pick one up?

How much do you want to spend?

Jim: Glad you made it out ok. Sounds like a horrific accident. When I bought our 26 in 1996, the dealer said that the trailer was $1500. I don't know if you had the same pricing when you bought your boat. The H260 looks to have the same trailer as the H26. You might be able to get another from them. Markdb. PS. Glad to hear you are alright. PPS, Nice to know that the mastcrutch can also be a roll bar.

Trailer

New trailer through Hunter runs around $3200 last I knew. It's made by Magic Tilt, so you might try checking with them on getting one, if you want to go new. Glad to hear you came out alright. Fair winds, John

kTrailers

Orginally, Hunter made the traielrs but got out of that and Magic Tilt now builds them. Same hull and therefore, the new trailers will work for your boat. Since you lost your trailer, insurance to some degree will pick up the cost. Do you have replacement insurance on it. When you do get a quote, make sure that you get the freight and destination charges included. I am not sure if your insurance will cover as you were out of the country in Mexico. Some insureres will not cover if you go south of the border so check that out first. Crazy Dave Condon

Appreciate Your Help

Thanks for your responses. I had a rider on my Boat US insurance policy that covered me in Mexico. My trailer isinsured for $2700. Steve Wright, I tried to go to that address you identified but did not find anything there I could use. Do you have a little more specific info? Magic Tilt only sells through dealers and the nearest one from me is a long way off! That's probably the route I'll have to take though if I can't find anything in Arizona. Jim Schaff

ebay maybe

Unless the trailer that is offered for sale anywhere is a Magic Tilt or the earlier one from Hunter, do not try to get a substitute as the trailer is specifically designed for the hull of the 260. Anything else may damage your boat. I know of two folks that did go against my advice and guess what, their boats were damaged. Please listen to me as I am the expert on this one. Dave Condon

Reckon I'll look for a "Magic Tilt"

Steve, I got into the e-bay location where that trailer is shown. It's for a 22-24 foot power boat. Mine is a 26 foot sail boat. guess I'll take Crazy Dave's advice and look for Magic Tilt dealer. Sure appreciate all the help and advice from you folks. Jim Schaff s/v Morning Glory
