O'Day 25 or 26

John,

Thought you bought one a thousand miles away?

Three or four years ago there were several of each for sale. Most were project boats. Project boats is the nature of boats 20 or more years old. I suspect that a couple of those formerly advertized went to the dump. Project boats often require a long time to restore to useable and more dollars than spent on original hull.

Have you considered a new boat? Still a couple of companies making boats that are similiar in sailing characteristics. Why are you sticking to these two boats?

Oday 26 Central FL
I've looked at a few long distance but they didn't work out.

I've sailed the 25 a few times and like it. In the past, I have owned a few Precisions, 18 and 23. I like the shoaldraft keel/centerboard living in the shallow waters of FL. The 26 is as big as I can go for trailering, back and forth to the marina once a year. Most importantly, it's as big as I can go and still fit the restrictions of my subdivision. I want something big enough and heavy enough to take off for a few weeks of sailing at a time.

The Oday 25 and 26 fit all my requirements and again, I've sailed the 25 and like it along with the fact that I like the inside set up.

Lastly, a new boat is out of my budget. Through the years I've always bought used sailboats and restored them to almost new. I enjoy working on them sometimes as much as sailing;-).

The bottom line is: I'm looking for a used O'day 25 or 26 with or without a trailer in "sailable" condition.

Hope this answers some questions.

they are out there

I found my 1977 Oday 25 on craigslist. She is in great shape and had been well cared for and was under $3000! Keep looking, try Ebay too.

Nice boat, very nice. If not rotted wood, and running engine, with trailer, that is and excellent asking price. If the sails are solid, that is a big bonus....looks like a good buy.
BTW the british racing green strip is way prettier!

John -

Don't forget to monitor this site. There are two O'Day 25's currently listed. Also, you may want to monitor www.sailingtexas.com as they have listings for sailboats all over the US. Good luck.
