Post some pictures of your boom and mainsheet blocks. Here is a pic of my mainsheet setup before I modified it.

First, I think the manual above is for a later model. Yours is a ‘75-‘84 model (like mine.) Here are the documents for your model: HunterOwners.com downloads

However I did not find any instructions for installing running rigging in those documents

There were more than one set up for the mainsheet delivered by Hunter on the 27 over it’s 10 year production run. And prior owners may have modified the setup. So pictures of you cabin top and cockpit would help us to guide you there.

Here is how our foresail lines are rigged which is probably the same for all versions:
- The jib (or genny) halyard runs through a blocks at the top of the mast, and down outside and behind the mast. Ours goes to a winch on the port side, and then to a cleat on the mast below the winch.
- The jib sheets go outside all the shrouds back to snap shackles mounted on the toerail, and from there to winches on both sides of the cockpit coaming then to cleats behind them.

The main halyard runs over two blocks on the top of the mast and comes down forward of the mast to a winch on the starboard side with a cleat below it.

Our topping lift is a steel cable fastened to the back side of the top of the mast. It is fastened to the back of our boom by a small line that allows us to adjust the height of the boom.

Our mainsheet is a fall of 4 parts running from the aft end of the boom to a traveler across the cockpit behind the tiller. I believe this was original to the boat, but cabin top rigs running to mid boom as shown by heritage above are more common on the model. I have also seen travelers on cabin tops, which might be owner mods.
