Whelp ... my first attempt was aborted. 200 NM of stinking bad weather and ...
1. Electrical issues that I thought I had resolved re-appeared and batteries wouldn't hold charge. No power = no auto-pilot = no sleep for a single hander.
2. Salt water ingress to the fresh water tanks. I'm guessing heeled over the over-fill outlets were syphoning sea water back into the tanks. Still to investigate this so that's just my best guess.
3. Running the engine to get some power back into the batteries I fell asleep in the cockpit. Wind swirling around the (large) dodger brought exhaust fumes into the cockpit. How do you spell carbon monoxide? Sick as a brown dog for 48 hours.
4 The sad old mainsail that was on the boat when I bought it split a seam. But I was prepared! I had purchased a 2nd hand sail that looked to be in reasonable condition. Less than 12 hours later that split a seam as well.
5. Numerous small leaks in ports, mast collar, deck fittings etc that hadn't shown up before.
So 200NM back to Channel Islands Harbor to recuperate and repair. 400 NM test sail, I'll call that.
The good news? I'm really impressed with how well the old girl handled 40-ish knot winds and big seas. At no point did the boat do anything scary.
So ... still in California. Not a terrible place to be stuck, really.

I'll let you know how my next effort goes.
