The motor is slid into basically a cave from the saloon, and access is either from quarter berth or cockpit lazarette. Get used to working with one hand through a small access port.
Despite those nasty negative comments, as of tonight I have through the engine access door and the access ports replaced stuffing box, prop shaft, shaft coupling and four new motor mounts. With patience, (combined with a good fan) you can service the motor despite poor access. If this is your first inboard sailboat dive in and embrace THIS boat. Every future boat will deliver a huge bonus in terms of engine access.
Your motor starts. That's relatively huge. My gut is you will probably be ahead financially if you repair what you have and make it reliable.
