I'm hoping someone can help me find the perfect sailboat 4 me! I'm looking for a small (20'-26'), trailerable, retractable keel, 6'-8' beem, fiberglass or composite mono-hull 2 masted single handed schooner, open cockpit, day sailer with all rigging in good shape for sail or at least a manufacture of a hull design so i can keep a look out if one ever becomes available. I found schooner I like ( @ : sailboats.com #4 Sailboat listings.com [@ bottom of page] Boats over 20' page 2 Custom Bolger Singlehander Schooner. The problem with this one is, it only has a 4' beem. But it's a beautiful boat. I've try e-mailing the owner but i haven't got a reply yet. And I haven't found a company that built a hull like the one described above. If you can help me please e-mail me at : ricrobgoose@yahoo.com thanks!!!!!

McGregor?

I think McGregor use to make a 23er that was a modern reproduction of a "pilot ship". Don't know if it was really a schooner design, but it was unique. Two headsails, clipper bow, som wood on the bowsprit. Doubt they still make them but good luck

Venture 23

A friend had a Venture 23, perhaps made by McGregor, that was a good looking boat. It had two headsails but only one main. Had the wood bowstrit, round wood portals, etc. We called it a pirate ship. It was trailerable and had swing keel. He bought it for $2,000. Good luck. Randy

Try this one......for a classic sloop...

It has been around for a long time, and it has very beautiful lines, and sails great...It is a fixed keel though...but nice.

A man who knows what he wants

That's a pretty specific set of criteria you have Rick! Since you seem to know what you like and are probably an experienced sailor, no one needs to tell you how unusual schooner rigged boats are these days, especially smaller hulls. It sounds like you are searching for a custom boat. I can't think of a single manufacturer that offered a schooner-rigged boat. If you are like the rest of us and can't afford to commission your own one-off boat, you will probably be stuck trying to find someone else's custom boat for sale. My suggestion: look at boats for sale in areas where more traditional rigs and designs are popular. New England and the Northwest come to mind. Check out the local editions of Soundings magazine for those areas, and the local weekly car/boat/mc classified ads magazine (the one that consists of about 200 pages of photo ads). The local libraries in those locations should be able to provide you with contact info for those mags. Also, you could email any yacht designer and ask them if they have stock plans for a boat similar to your dream machine, or if they know of any such designs. As weird as it may seem, I thoroughly enjoyed the search for my boat and I hope you do too.

McGregor

The McGregor 23 was marketed as the "Venture of Newport" You might find it listed somewhere under this description.

McGregor 23 Venture Newport

We just bought a McGregor 23 2 days ago. Built in 1978. It's fine craft. Had it out today in some strong winds. Handled very nicely. It's a little lighter than our last boat ( used to have a Bristol 27 with a full lead keel ) but I think we're going to be very happy with it for day and weekend sails. It has a 600 lb swing keel so can never capsize. Check out the following link: tells all about it. http://www.geocities.com/venturenewport/brochure.html#Color%20Brochure
