I am looking for some info on getting my injector pump rebuilt or buying a rebuilt pump. I am open to suggestions. I bled all my fuel lines and am getting fuel to the pump but no fuel exiting the pump. i took the line off that exits the pump going to the injector, opened the throttle and turned the engine over and got zero fuel comming out. I've never been accused of being a brain surgeon, but I think the pump is bad. If anyone has any info, (phone#, web address), don't be shy. thx.

Shut-off valve

Joe, Are you sure the shut-off valve is open? Paul

Injector Pump Bleed Screw

Probably not the injector pump. What engine do you have? Assuming it is a Yanmar, did you open the injector pump bleed screw and hand pump the lift pump? I had the same problem the first time I blead my system. If it's a Yanmar, look for a phillips head screw with a lock nut on the starboard side of the injector pump. Crack this open, manually pump the lift pump until fuel flows with no air bubbles. Then proceed with bleeding the injectors. Hope it helps...

Bleeding Process

All following is from the Yanmar owners class. Obviously, the valve at the tank is open and fuel is passing the primary filter. But this must be a 30 micron filter "only," the lift pump will not pull fuel through one with smaller pores. This will be "color coded red." There are two pumps; the "lead pump", that is the one with the flipper lever to bleed the rest of the system, and the "injector pump," the one I understand you feel is faulty. Follow this procedure: 1. Open the bleed on the top of the fuel filter, 10m wrench. After the bubbles stop, re-tighten. 2. Open the bleed on the face of the fitting at tha end of the line where the fuel enters the "injector pump." Again, use the flipper to pump all air out and fuel is coming to the injector pump. Close the bleed. 3. Use a 17m wrench to crack open all of the high pressure lines to the injectors. Important to do all at once. Cover with some heavy rags as this fuel will be at very high pressure and may spray far, best to close the compartment. 4. Open the cylinder pressure relief and the throttle wide open and crank for 5 seconds. Stop and re-tighten all lines to the injectors. 5. Clean up, close the pressure relief, say a short prayer, and go for it! PS: Liquid Dawn is reputed to be the most effective for cleaning up fuel and lubricants as it contains bugs that eat petroleum. It is also biodegradable. Good Luck.

1. the fuel pump will indeed pump (suck) fuel through a filter less than 30 microns. In fact, it will easily pump through a 2 micron filter. The 30 micron filter is simply recommended although I consistenly use the 10 micron because of personal preference. 2. if nothing is coming out of the low pressure side fuel pump but there is fuel in the primary filter and lines, the line has an air lock or the pump is bad. Simple to eliminate the first possibility by simply lowering the line below the filter level to see if fuel drains. If it does, you are getting fuel to the pump. Push the pump lever to see if you can such fuel into the secondary filter while leaving the bleed screw open to see if you can get fuel through the pump.

Bleed screw

Couple years ago, I had a difficult time bleeding in my fuel system after changing the engine fuel filter. I tried using the pump on the engine but no fuel came through the bleed screw on top of the engine filter. Finally, I loosen the bleed screw on top of the filter and had my wife attempt to crank the engine over. After two or three cranks, fuel started pouring out of the bleed screw. Maybe you should try this.

Just a reminder.....

the pump must be on the low side of the cam for the lever to work properly. If the pump lever does not seem to be very effective you may be on the high lobe of the pump cam. Tap the starter to reposition it and try again. Tom s/v Orion's Child
