Hey Guys! I looking for some advice for the Long Islanders... My boat is at Long Island Yatch Sales in Bayshore.(I bought it from them and just left it there... so far). They said they will be charging me $100 a foot for my summer slip fees. I was just wondering if I was getting ripped off? They have no ammenities besides a bathroom. My wife hates the place so all winter I was looking for a new marina, but it's tough to tell which marinas are deep enough for a 3 1/2 foot draft. Any suggestions? Thanks, Jeremy

I bought

my boat from them and could not wait to get out......my personal experience though. I keep my boat on the north shore in Mt. Sinai and pay a little less than that price. Greg P36-2

Don

A bargain by our standards

$100/ft around here is CHEAP! Try $140/ft in summer and $4/square ft for winter storage

Now I know why

the chesapeake is such a popular cruising ground. I pay 1115 summer slip fees for my 30 ft and 570 winter storage including haulout power wash and spring launch.

Please quantify...

$100/ft/??? ??? = month/season/year If season. how long is a season and what happens to the slip if you move your boat to dry storage. Being a West Coast salior, I don't understand how the East Coast pricing works. Sorry for the ignorance.

For the season...

$100 a foot for the season... basically April to November atleast at the marina I am at now. So 8 months out of the year they are charging me $100 a foot and it's $50 a foot for the other 4 which includes pulling the boat and putting it in in the spring also water and electric in the summer. So I am paying $3700.00 for the year. I am looking into moving my boat to a private slip (ie someones private dock) since my cousin owns a winter boat storage facility (mainly powerboats) so I'd just have to have the mast dropped and he'd cut me a deal on storage and shrink wrapping. -- Jeremy

Here in Connecticut...

... I pay $40.00 a foot and that just went up. I drop it in 2nd or 3th week in March and pull it out 2nd or 3th week in November. Then pay another $40.00 a foot for the dry time on the hard. http://www.captainscoveseaport.com/

Jeremy,

Have you checked out Seaborn in Bay Shore and are you a Town resident? if yes than get on the list for a town slip or even a private slip behind a house on a canal will work cause most canals should be deep enough for your draft. BTW did you join the South Bay crusing club? RAD

I am checking with the Town...

I am going to check with the town of islip and get myself on the list. (of course today is a holiday and they are closed) I also posted to craigslist.com and I contacted a company that brokers private slips on Long Island. RAD I haven't joined yet, but I am sending in my application in March. I am still recovering, financially, from the holidays. :) That and I had to buy a new jib. Fun, Fun... I am very excited to join SBCC. -- Jeremy

Minimum Depth?

What do you think the minimum depth at low tide for a slip for a boat that draws 3.5 feet should be? I found a private slip for about half the price, but the low tide water level is only 4 feet.... -- Jeremy

That might work as a temp solution

is that mean low or normal low, how far do you have to travel to get out? what canal? this slip might work till the town comes thru. I've brought my 32 with a 3'6" draft up a lot of canals and never got stuck, bumped the bottom a little but never got stuck, so I try to venture up canals at higher tides
