Does anyone know if either Little Egg or Barnegat Inlets are reasonably negotiable with a five foot draft? I've promised the family a week at "the shore" (Beach Haven) this summer on the boat, and I'm trying to avoid going in via Absecon and going up the ICW, which seems to present its own issues. Any advice/alternative recommendations on getting to LBI from the south would be appreciated.

Go a little further north up the coast and take the Barnegate inlet. The water in Barneget bay are 7 to 11 feet in that area of the bay. I'm moving my boat to that area this year. You still need to study your charts and follow channel markers around the LBI area.there are lots of shallows in the Barneget bay. A nice place to go is Tice's shoal lots of boats drop the hook or beach them selves and walk over the dune and spen the day on the beach. This beach is Island state park and you wont find life guards there. Good luck and have great vacation.

Barnegat Inlets

They dreg it all the time. Keep to starboard as your coming in from the ocean. My boss has a Hunter 420 that draw 5 feet. He come in and out of Barnegat Inlets all the time. I would not try it at light!
