How do you lower the bilge boards on a Lone Star 16? Acting like levers are locked and seller is not available. May have to disassemble lever assembly to doscover remedy but thought I'd try the forum first. This Lone Star is vintage 1970 and like new! Should be a sweet day sailer if I can cet the darn boards down! Any help on this boat problem would be appreciated. Thnx

I just searched Lone Star 16 sailboat and found several sites for information. One showed a "specs" booklet 15 pages in length. One of those pages showed an expanded view of the lever assembly for the lee boards (bilge boards). Perhaps there is an owners manual available online too. Maybe an owners group online could help. Thanks for your reply. I found that too, but no clue to operation. I have downloaded the pdf for reference. Hoping to find a sailor/owner but they may all be dead! 45 year old boat - goes to show, fiberglass and aluminum are not biodegradable! And old sailors never die, they just smell that way!
I had one (forty five years ago!) and I don't recall any particular trick to deploying the dagger boards with the levers. I suspect they are frozen. If it were me, I would use a small amount of something like WD 40 or Liquid Wrench and then work the boards from underneath. In fact, if you have not already done so, I'd start there and hold off on the lube until that didn't work. Good luck! PS: fun boat!
I owned one about 14 years ago and like Rick said there was no particular trick just push or pull the lever. It was my first sailboat and soon as I put the sails up and the wind hit them I was hooked on sailing. Fun boat and your lucky to find one in great shape.
Thanks all for your help. Guess its time to bite the bullet. I'll looasen the plates a bit, apply some WD40, let it soak overnite, then wrestle them down with controlled firmness from both top and bottom. I suspect swelling up inside the bulkhead of the bilges. Through-bolts may be corroded as well so slow is the byword. If this doesn't work it will be a case of break it all down and refurbish as needed. Really looking forward to saiing this gem. Unlike my Hunter 23, I can solo launch and rig the LS for a day on the water. What fun! This Forum is a great find! Thanks again y'all!
