I'm wondering where is the best place for my two 12V batteries. I am a relatively new boat owner, and have a wonderfully maintained 1974 or 1975 Catalina. The cabin layout has the galley forward on the port-side, NOT the model with the galley just at the bottom of the stairs. The batteries are currently located on a ledge in the storage space behind the stairs, at the very back (beneath the cockpit floor, and near the motor). It is difficult to check the batteries regularly because of the tight, dark space they are in. They are too heavy for me to lift out, so I would like to relocate them.Because both quarter berths are very high, I have very shallow cockpit lockers, and I don't believe the current shape of battery I have will fit in the cockpit locker. I know batteries should not be in the cabin due to the danger of hydrogen leakage when charging. There is no particular ventilation where they are, and they are inaccessible! Where do others with this same cabin layout store their batteries? Thanks for your help!Marilyn Burnett
